Geekvape's two-lane hardware approach

Most vape brands try to cover everything in one product family. Geekvape took a different route: a dedicated pod kit range under the Sonder, Wenax and Digi names, and a separate advanced mod range under the Aegis banner. The two ranges share brand identity and coil quality but are aimed at entirely different users. If you are switching from cigarettes or moving up from a disposable, the pod kit lane is the starting point. If you already vape and want something built to last, the Aegis line has no serious competition on ruggedness at this price.

The pod kit lane is built around the Q pod ecosystem. Q pods come in four resistance options (0.4Ω, 0.6Ω, 0.8Ω and 1.2Ω), are colour-coded by resistance for easy identification, and cross-fit between the Sonder Q2, Wenax Q Pro and Aegis Hero Q kits. Top-fill and side-fill variants are both available depending on which kit you use.

The Aegis lane uses B series coils for the Boost and Hero pod mods, and Z series mesh coils for the Legend and Solo mod kits paired with Zeus sub-ohm tanks. The Zeus Sub Ohm Tank 5 is available separately at VapeCity at £22.99, which suits users who want to pair a Geekvape tank with their own box mod.

Sonder Q2 and Wenax Q2: where to start with Geekvape pods

The Sonder Q2 is Geekvape's simplest kit. Auto-draw activation, no buttons, no screen, 1,350 mAh battery and a colour-coded Q pod system that makes coil selection straightforward. At £7.99 at VapeCity, it competes directly with the Aspire Gotek X3 and the Oxva Xlim Go 2 at a similar price point. The Sonder Q2 edges both on pod longevity: Q pods typically last 15 to 20 refills before flavour drops, which is above average for a budget pod kit.

The Wenax Q2 sits above it in the range at £16.99. It is not just a bigger battery kit — the Wenax Q2 adds a colour display, 5-25W variable wattage, an aluminium alloy body with a leather grip panel, and nine colour finishes from understated (Fiber Black, Mocha Mousse) to more expressive (Summer Lime, Powder Pink, Ruby Amber). It charges to 80% in 30 minutes via USB-C. At 106 x 24 x 14mm and 67 grams, it is a compact kit with a noticeably more premium feel than its price suggests.

Both kits use the same Q pod family. Switching from the Sonder Q2 to the Wenax Q2 means no new pods to buy, no new coil system to learn. That continuity is a practical advantage if you plan to upgrade later.

Aegis ruggedness: what IP67 actually means

IP67 is an International Protection rating. The 6 means fully dustproof; the 7 means the device can be submerged in up to one metre of water for up to 30 minutes and continue to function. On top of the IP67 rating, Geekvape's Aegis series is tested to MIL-STD-810G standards, the same drop and shock resistance specification used for military field equipment.

In practice, this means the Aegis handles what most vape hardware cannot: being dropped onto concrete, used in the rain, left in a bag with keys and coins, or knocked off a table. The silicone ports that cover the USB-C charging connection and 510 tank connector maintain the IP rating when closed. The slide-lock firing mechanism prevents accidental firing in pockets.

For users who go through a vape kit every year through damage, the Aegis is the cost-effective choice despite its higher initial price. The Aegis Legend 5 at £54.99 is built to last significantly longer than cheaper hardware that gets dropped and cracked. The trade-off is that it requires dual 18650 batteries (sold separately), which adds to the initial outlay, and it is a larger, heavier device than a pod kit.

Geekvape's coil families: which one for which kit

Geekvape runs four coil families across the range, each tied to specific kits and tanks. Getting the right coil for your kit is straightforward once you know the system.

Q pods cover the entire Sonder and Wenax Q range. They come in top-fill and side-fill formats, both available in 0.4Ω, 0.6Ω, 0.8Ω and 1.2Ω. The colour-coding (red, orange, yellow, green) makes resistance identification at a glance practical when you have multiple pods in a bag.

J series coils and pods go in the Digi range. The Digi Pod Kit and Digi Q Vista use J series cartridges in 0.4Ω through 1.2Ω covering RDTL down to tight MTL. J pods are not cross-compatible with Q pod kits.

B series coils are for the Aegis Boost, Boost 3 and Hero range. These are replaceable coils rather than whole-pod replacements, which means you swap the coil and keep the pod. B series covers 0.2Ω down to 1.0Ω across the Boost and Hero kit range. Z series coils go in the Zeus sub-ohm tanks and pair with the Aegis Legend and Solo mod kits. Setting up a Geekvape Sonder Q2 or Wenax Q2 for the first time

   Charge to full before first use

   Both the Sonder Q2 and Wenax Q2 ship with a partial charge. Connect via USB-C and charge to 100% before vaping. The Wenax Q2 reaches 80% in approximately 30 minutes.

   Choose your Q pod resistance

   Use the colour coding: green 1.2Ω for tight MTL and 20mg nic salts; yellow 0.8Ω for a loose MTL draw; orange 0.6Ω for RDL. If you are just switching from cigarettes, start with the 1.2Ω green pod and 20mg nic salt.

   Fill and prime

   Top-fill pods: open the fill cap at the top, fill with e-liquid, close. Side-fill: push the silicone port to the side, fill from the side port. In either case, wait 5 minutes before first draw to let the mesh saturate.

   Adjust airflow

   Both kits have a side airflow slider. Slide to close for a tighter, cigarette-like draw; open for a looser RDL draw. The adjustment is noticeable and worth experimenting with before settling on a position.

   Replace the pod when flavour drops

   Q pods typically last 15 to 20 refills, or around 3 to 4 weeks with regular use. A sharp drop in flavour intensity or a burnt/dry note means the pod needs replacing, not refilling.

Geekvape vs other pod kit and mod brands

On the pod kit side, the Sonder Q2 competes directly with the Aspire Gotek X3 and Oxva Xlim Go 2 at similar prices. The Q pod system's longevity (15-20 refills per pod vs 10-14 for most competitor pods) is the main practical advantage. The Wenax Q2 at £16.99 competes with the Aspire PockeX AIO at £17.99; the Wenax Q2 has a more modern chipset and wider colour selection, the PockeX has a longer track record and wider name recognition.

On the sub-ohm mod side, the Aegis Legend 5 at £54.99 has no direct equivalent in terms of ruggedness at this price point. Voopoo Drag S3 and the Innokin range offer similar wattage output but without the IP67 rating. If you work outdoors, vape in conditions where hardware gets wet or dirty, or simply break vape kits regularly, the Aegis premium is worthwhile.

Geekvape's main weakness is range complexity. With Q pods, J series, B series and Z series coils covering different product lines, it can be confusing to know which replacement to order. The answer is to check your kit model first: Sonder or Wenax Q series use Q pods; Digi range uses J series; Aegis Boost/Hero uses B series; Aegis Legend/Solo and Zeus tanks use Z series.
